Genre 1: FLYER for incoming BU students

I decided to do a flyer for my first genre. This genre was meant for incoming freshmen at Bloomsburg University. A flyer is a great way to get information out to students who are around campus. Flyers are often hung throughout dorm buildings and other campus buildings. When thinking about making this flyer, I looked at other flyers posted around campus. I used these flyers to get ideas for my own. I also thought about the CRAP and PAGE principles when making this flyer.

Example 1: This flyer is about an event happening throughout the week on campus. The contrast of colors on this poster help it to stand out. The black background with white writing helps to make the words stand out. They also put the title of the event in a larger font than the other words written on the flyer. This makes the main points stand out more than the less important wording on the flyer. The alignment of this poster also helps to make the information stand out. The days of the week are written vertical on the side of the flyer. The events going on during each of these days is written across from them. The proximity of the dates when this event is going on is close to the title of the flyer. This makes is easy for the viewer to find all the important information in one spot. Some of the writing on this flyer is small and hard to read. The flyer would look better if only necessary information was on it. This would make this information stand out more. Students passing this flyer may not want to stop to read the fine print. They may see the top part of the poster and know when the event is, but will not take the time to look at what is going on each of the days. Reducing the amount of words and increasing the font size would make this flyer more presentable.

Example 2: This flyer is very colorful which helps it to stand out among other flyers. Many of the flyers you see around campus are grouped together on one wall. If you want your flyer to stand out, you must include eye catching visual elements to attract the attention of the viewer. This flyer does a good job with the contrast. The black background with white writing and an orange border helps it to be noticed by a person passing by. Another thing I like about this flyer is the background. They made the background of this flyer a picture of what the poster is representing. The background picture is of a microphone. This event is open mic night, which is represented by this picture. I also like that the name of the event is in big letters and the date it right below it. The alignment of this flyer makes it easy for the viewer to understand what the flyer is telling them. All the information shown on this flyer is relevant and organized.

Example 3: This flyer does has good contrast. The black writing on the green background makes it easy to see the information on this flyer. However, the colors are a little plain. This may not make the flyer stand out on a wall with other flyers. The picture on the flyer helps to give viewers a visual element to look at. The picture describes the event that is taking place. I like that the information on this flyer is concise and to the point. This makes it easier for students to understand what is going on without having to spend awhile looking at and reading the flyer. Viewers and students who walk by this flyer will be able to get all the information they need about this event without having to stand there and read it in depth. The alignment on this flyer is a little off. Some of the information and wording is a little scattered. Overall, this is a good flyer that gets right to the point. If it had a better color combination it would be a great example of a flyer.

EAR STEP 1: Flyer for Best Buddies Organization

When making my flyer, I took into consideration many key aspects for making an effective flyer. I stuck to one style font to keep the consistency throughout the flyer. I also used the same color for the writing and border around the flyer. I put the same picture on the bottom of the flyer to make the club stand out. I also decided to put two personal pictures on my flyer to make students who are passing by feel connected to the flyer. By seeing an actual picture of students in the club, other students will get an idea about what the club is about. The two pictures shown are from two of the activities that were done with the club. The font size for the name of the club and date which the event is being held is larger to attract the person to these two important areas of the flyer. I also used the border on the side of the page to add key elements in the club. The information about these elements is then repeated on the poster.
